Weekly Inspiration #5 – Keeping Perspective & Staying Motivated in Life

This week has not been the best for me. There were two of “those days” when I felt the world was gray, life was sad, and living was just too tiring. It’s a good thing Weekly Inspiration posts help me put life into perspective! Life is a roller coaster, but like all amusement park rides, it’s always enjoyable in the end. (Unless you throw up, of course.)

Notable Picks

Some things I did this week:

  • Dove into the Genius Blogger’s Toolkit. I can’t describe to you how excited I am to start consuming the material! If only I had discovered this treasure sooner . . .
  • Explored Portabella and Gekri, two privacy-first apps.
  • Discovered Swipe.page, a collection of methods for increasing “conversions, signups and revenue.” I am looking forward to implementing all the different strategies!
  • Started the Daily UI Challenge. It will take me longer than 100 days, but I’m going to try to finish it!

life’s emotional deserts

As I reflect over what has happened this past week, I notice that it’s been full of ups and downs. It’s one of those weeks I enjoy yet hate, and feel excited yet depressed about at the same time.

On Wednesday, I tried to describe some of my feelings in a short poem, titled “Okay”, that began with these four lines:

I’m okay,

You’re okay,

We’re okay —

So we say.

When one falls into an emotional rut, it can be hard to climb out.

Whenever my mood is dipping low, drowning with exhaustion and frustration, I tend to forget that I have the ability to pull myself back together.

One technique that helps me is to stop what I’m doing at the moment and instead, go do something I love. Even 10 minutes can be like a refreshing oasis in the middle of a desert.

We all need to drink water, after all.

Spending time doing something I enjoy gives me a drastic mood boost, and when I return to the task at hand, I find myself much more ready to take on the challenge.

Next week, I plan on sharing some more strategies that I personally find helpful. I can’t guarantee they’ll work for you, but I hope you find some inspiration from them. ? Stay tuned!

life's small wins

life-inspiration-small-wins.jpg

A few days ago, I was wrestling with frustration. I felt that I wasted too many hours each day, and the effort I put into things just wasn’t adding up. I couldn’t see the results of my hard work. Nor could I see why I was doing what I was doing, and pushing myself became unbearably painful.

Enter “small wins”. It’s a strategy I read about a few years ago, and starts with keeping track of small things in your life. The idea is to write down anything you accomplish towards any of your goals each day, so you can see how each “small win” is another step towards your overall future goal.

Small Wins – How it Works

  1. Write down your big goals.
  2. Each day, write down what you did toward those goals. It can be something as simple as “looked up xyz for inspiration”.
  3. At the end of a day, particularly when you’re feeling frustrated, read through those small accomplishments. Know that it leads up to something bigger and better.

To keep myself sane, I decided to begin writing down everything I accomplished each day, be it schoolwork, blogging, or simply learning something new.

Here’s a small glimpse of what my list looked like on Thursday afternoon:

Noticing even the smallest accomplishments can make you feel better. The process to success in life must be kept in mind, and “small wins” is one of the best ways to find inspiration and stay motivated.
